Description
The big toe joint takes a lot of force every time you push off. When it is stiff, arthritic or injured, each step can hurt. The Morton’s Extension adds a lightweight carbon-fiber plate under the big toe of both insoles to limit painful bending at that joint.
It is built on PowerStep’s full-length arch shell with a deep heel cradle and two layers of cushioning, so you get big-toe stability and full arch support in one insole – including during recovery after toe surgery, when your doctor recommends it.
Who It’s For
- Hallux rigidus / limitus (stiff big toe)
- Turf toe and sesamoiditis
- Bunion and big-toe-joint arthritis pain
What It Helps With
The carbon-fiber plate limits movement of the big toe joint (the MTP joint). PowerStep designed this insole for pain and stiffness from:
- Hallux rigidus and hallux limitus (stiff big toe)
- Turf toe
- Sesamoiditis
- Big-toe-joint arthritis
- Bunions
- Recovery after big-toe surgery, when recommended by your doctor
- Plus plantar fasciitis, heel spurs and arch pain linked to mild to moderate pronation
Persistent or severe foot pain should be checked by a podiatrist or physician. If you have diabetes, neuropathy or poor circulation, ask your doctor before using any orthotic insole.

How to Choose Your Size
Choose the size whose range includes your US shoe size – each option shows the men’s and women’s sizes it fits. Take out your shoe’s factory insole, then slide the PowerStep insole in and push it all the way back to the heel.
Care & Replacement
Spot clean with a mild detergent, do not submerge in water, and air dry. PowerStep advises that insoles typically last 6 months or longer depending on how often and how hard they are worn – replace them when the cushioning flattens or your discomfort returns.
Frequently Asked Questions
What does the carbon-fiber plate do?
It stiffens the insole under the big toe so the joint does not bend as far when you walk – reducing the movement that causes pain with hallux rigidus, turf toe and sesamoiditis.
Can I use it after bunion or big-toe surgery?
Many people do during recovery, but follow your surgeon’s or podiatrist’s instructions on when to start.
Can it go in athletic shoes?
Yes – it fits best in athletic and walking shoes with a removable insole.
How long do PowerStep insoles last?
PowerStep says 6 months or longer with normal use. Daily wear, running or heavy work shortens that – replace them when the cushioning feels flat, the arch feels softer, or your pain returns.
Can I use my HSA or FSA card?
Yes – PowerStep lists this insole as HSA/FSA eligible.
